Nativity Decorated for Palm SundayPassion Sunday with the Liturgy of the Palms – Sunday, April 14th at 8:30 and 10:00 :  As Holy Week begins, we wave our palms and parade into the church, remembering the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. We hear Luke’s account of Jesus’s arrest, trial, and execution on the cross.

Potluck Supper at 5:30 : in Bartonville Hall

Service at 7:00pm : Our service this night recalls the last night of Jesus’s life. We hear how he washed the disciples’ feet before their last supper, and as we remember him teaching us about how to serve, all are welcome to have their feet washed by a priest. We hear of Jesus giving the new commandment (the Latin mandatum gives this day its name Maundy) to love one another as he loves us. And we recall the gift of the eucharist, Jesus’s body and blood which we share together. As the service concludes, the reserve sacrament is taken to the chapel, and the altar and sanctuary are stripped–left open and bare as we begin the Great Three Days.
We depart in silence, although all are welcome to remain and pray before Jesus in the eucharist in the Chapel of the Holy Family.

Good Friday – April 19th aGuarani Crucifixt 10 am : we gather in silence on this solemn day. We walk together with Jesus through his capture, his trial and the torment he is put through, and then his death on the cross. There is opportunity for all to venerate the cross. We do not celebrate the eucharist on this day, but receive the sacrament which we reserved the night before.

PaschalCandleEaster Vigil – April 20th at Christ’s Church Cathedral : A rich celebration with Bishop Susan and Christians from all around Hamilton. We gather with the blessing of the new fire in the Cathedral’s courtyard, and the lighting of the paschal candle. We make our way into the church, and by candlelight hear the great sweep of God’s saving acts, culminating in raising Jesus from the dead. The bells ring, we reaffirm our baptism into Christ, and we shout the ‘a’-word with joy for the first time since Lent began!
