Sundays and Seasons offers this reflection on the readings we’ll hear today:
Forerunners and messengers advance the advent of our God. While John the baptizer’s voice in the wilderness may be the principal focus of the day, Baruch’s prophecy speaks of preparing before God comes to remake and renew all creation. Finally all the baptized are called to participate in the sharing of the gospel. In so doing we prepare the way for the coming of Jesus and assist all people in capturing a vision of the “salvation of God.”

Our cover image this morning is a photograph of a fragment of a mosaic in the Hagia Sophia, dating to the 12th century and depicting John the Baptiser. The picture was taken by user Brad Hostetler on flickr.
