Sundays and Seasons offers this reflection on the readings we’ll hear today:
Today’s festival rejoices in God’s blessings. We recall and celebrate our adoption as God’s children, the gift of the Holy Spirit, and the promised company of almighty God when we “pass through the waters . . . the rivers . . . fire.” On this day the heavens open again for this assembly, and we receive the gift of God’s Beloved, Jesus, in bread and wine.

Our cover image this morning is from the Wikimedia Commons. It’s a photograph of a mural depicting the baptism of Jesus, from the Cathédrale de Sainte Trinité, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, in the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti. Sadly, the Cathedral was severely damaged by the 2010 earthquake which struck Haiti. The ruins had to be razed. The murals depicted significant moments from scripture, using only people of black African heritage. For more information on the murals, you can visit this page.
For more information on the Diocese of Haiti, and the efforts to rebuild the cathedral using earthquake- and hurricane-resistant designs and standards, you can visit this page.
