Sunday, January 8, 2023 – Three Theophanies!

Following the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health of Ontario and diocesan guidelines, we strongly encourage you to wear a high-quality medical mask for in-person attendance.

You can join the service, live or later, via YouTube. The live-stream will begin at 9:45 am, and the service itself will begin at 10 am. You’ll be able to watch or re-watch it on YouTube at the same link at any later time.

You can find the order of service here. It includes the readings, the responses, and the words of the hymns, so you can join in as fully as possible via the live-stream.

This Sunday, we’re keeping three feasts in one day! We’ll remember the wise men from the East arriving to pay homage to Jesus after following his star — the feast of the Epiphany. We’ll remember his parents taking him to the temple, forty days after his birth, and the prophets Simeon & Anna marvelling to meet the Messiah — the feast of the Presentation. And we’ll remember Jesus going out to John by the Jordan, and the Spirit descending on Jesus like a dove when he comes up out of the river — the feast of the Baptism of Jesus.

Each of these moments is a special kind of an epiphany, a theophany: God showing God’s self to us, making God known in Jesus. And God continues to make God’s self known through us and all of the remarkable work God is up to in the world around us–so we’ll sing and rejoice and pray that we would be open to noticing God even when we’re not expecting a divine encounter.
